When a loved one dies, it’s heart-breaking to have to make funeral decisions during an already hard time without guidance, such as what music or flowers you wanted, or where to put your ashes. But making some quick decisions about your own funeral now can be really helpful for your loved ones after your death.
Things to discuss include whether you prefer burial, cremation, or a “greener” funeral, and how much you choose to spend on things like music, flowers, religious ceremonies, and readings.
The advantage of pre-arranging a funeral with a prepaid funeral plan is that not only is it one less worry for the family, but most of the costs also involved in arranging the funeral have already been paid for.
The Financial Conduct Authority started regulating pre-paid funeral plans on 29 July 2022. Their regulation means you can be sure that:
- you get the plan you’ve paid for and it meets your needs.
- your money is looked after and used responsibly.
- you get the information you need to make an informed decision.
- providers selling plans follow FCA rules.
